L'UCCS est actuellement composée d’environ 150 chercheurs, enseignants-chercheurs et personnels adossés à la recherche ainsi que d’une centaine de non-permanents (thèses et post-doc). Les recherches menées à l’UCCS se situent dans 2 principaux champs scientifiques : l’Énergie et le Développement Durable, lesquels sont déclinés en trois axes, à savoir la catalyse hétérogène, la catalyse et chimie moléculaire, et la chimie du solide.

Le (la) futur(e) post-doctorant(e) sera intégré(e) dans l’Equipe Catalyse Supramoléculaire (CASU) de l’Unité de Catalyse et de Chimie du Solide (UCCS Artois) de Lens. Les travaux de l’équipe CASU se situent dans le domaine de la chimie durable, à l’interface de deux disciplines : la catalyse et la chimie supramoléculaire. Cette équipe est pluridisciplinaire et regroupe des compétences à la fois en Catalyse Homogène, Catalyse Hétérogène, Chimie Supramoléculaire, Synthèse Organique et en Génie Chimique.

  • Type of Contract: FTC scientist (12 months, Full-time).

  • Remuneration: ~ 2000 € (net monthly salary).

  • Context

Products made of polymers are common in all areas of our daily life. Due to its versatility, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is one of the most widely used polymers in the world, with a very wide range of industrial and technical uses. However, their uses raise the question of the management of the waste they generate. Awareness of this situation has led public authorities, researchers and industrialists in the sector to take measures to increase the recycling of PVC waste. These measures involve the development and promotion of innovative recycling technologies.

The end-of-life treatment of polymers generally comes in four options: landfill, incineration with energy recovery, mechanical recycling and chemical recycling. In the last case, such processes consist of using appropriate chemical reactions to produce valuable products, in a circular economy process. As part of the AAP IRENE 2019-2022, the RECYPP project that brings together 2 partners, Unity of Catalysis and Solid State Chemistry (CASU team, Lens) and the VYNOVA Company (European leader in the production of PVC in suspension, Mazingarbe), aims to provide answers to the challenge of chemical recycling of PVC-based polymer materials. The main focus of this project is the development of a catalytic process for dehydrochlorination of PVC, operating in the liquid phase in moderate temperature conditions (<200 ° C) in the presence of specific catalysts, in order to produce a carbonaceous material (hydrocarbon part of PVC) and recover the hydrogen chloride (HCl).

  • ŸBibliographic study supplementing the knowledge already acquired by the partners.
  • Performing analyzes and laboratory tests: synthesis of catalytic materials and physicochemical characterizations, catalytic tests with analytical monitoring of the solution, Physicochemical analyzes of residues after test.
  • ŸStudy of structure / reactivity relationships (catalyst).
  • ŸReport writing on the progress of the work and oral presentations of the results.
  • Promotion and dissemination of results in the form of publications, conferences, scientific events or the general public.

Starting date



  • ŸPh.D in heterogeneous catalysis. He (she) will have strong skills and experience in the synthesis of catalysts, conducting catalytic tests (in particular in liquid phase), in the domain of physico-chemistry of materials and characterization techniques. Skills in kinetics or chemical engineering will be appreciated.
  • ŸLanguage: ability to write and communicate in English is essential.
  • Autonomy, dynamic, organizational capacity, excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
