Founded in 1997 by the University of Barcelona (UB) with the support of the Bosch & Gimpera Foundation and the Caixa Catalunya, Barcelona Science Park (PCB - Parc Científic de Barcelona) hosts research institutions and public and private companies.

In January 2008, PCB has made public its development plan for the period up to 2011. 
During this time it will grow from 25,000 m2 to 90,000 m2. 
With the projected increase in the number of research centres and companies, the number of professionals in Research, Development & Innovation, is expected to reach 4,000 by 2011.
