In June 2006, Nivea Corporation created an observatory to "advance knowledge about the skin, disseminate it widely and support human and social science research on this theme," its website declares.

Late 2007, a jury composed of four members of the CNRS and five members of the Nivea Observatory selected French-speaking PhD students in human and social sciences, or at the interface (biology, chemistry) whose research had to do with the "skin" theme.

Two prizes for an amount of 20,000€ each will be awarded to young researchers to help them pursue and enhance their research. Take note of the obligations and commitments of the potential winners! The rules stipulate that applicants "must not be bound by a collaborative agreement or benefit from any other private funding from a direct competitor (cosmetic companies) of one of the organizers (particularly cosmetic distribution companies) during the competition and beyond, during the course of their research."
