"Young investigator? grants from the European Research Council 2009

Laurent Cousin

Why not turn to Europe to finance your research? The European Research Council has just published its call for projects for “young investigator” grants.
The European Research Council is a young European institution (February 2007) that aims to support leading scientists, engineers and researchers. On July 30 it published the third “young investigator” call for proposals.

This call is addressed to researchers at the start of their career who are about to establish or consolidating an independent team and who are conducting pioneering frontier research projects in all fields of science and technology. Individual researchers or small research teams are also invited to apply.

The third ERC “Young investigator” call for proposals has a budget of about 529 million euros and three application deadline dates depending on three major areas:

- October 28, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. (Brussels time): Physical science and engineering
- November18, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. (Brussels time): Life sciences
- December 9, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. (Brussels time): Social sciences

There is also a call for projects for “advanced investigators” (advanced grants). It will be endowed with a budget of 590 million euros, and will be issued this coming fall.
