Axa Research Fund: Doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships

Webmaster

The Axa research fund is offering around thirty doctoral and thirty postdoctoral fellowships.

The Axa research fund was created in January 2008 and has a budget of 100 million euros to spend over five years. The goal: to encourage scientific research that will contribute to understanding and preventing the major risks to the environment (climate and natural catastrophes), human life (longevity, dependence, addictions, emerging biomedical risks) and socio-economic activities (geopolitical, financial, economic risks). All disciplines are implicated including, of course, human and social sciences.
Each of the Axa Research Fund fellowships is for the sum of 120,000 euros spread over a two-year period for post-docs and a three-year period for PhD students.

N.B: Individual applications are not accepted, applications must be submitted by the host institutions who then establish a work contract with the PhD students and post-docs financed by the Fund.
For post-docs, institutions must submit their candidates by February 25, 2011. The candidates have until 21 March to submit their applications.

For PhD students the institutions’ deadline for applications is March 21, 2011 and for the candidates April 15.

The network asset
There’s a significant added advantage as the Axa Fund still plays the network card, organising theme-based “Talent days” to bring together its grant holders. Echo, a bilingual quarterly magazine was started in 2010 in order to strengthen the venture, and a Web community platform is to be launched shortly.
