Employeur

The team « Pathogenesis of Small Vessel Diseases of the Brain » led by Dr. Anne JOUTEL is located at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurosciences of Paris and affiliated to Inserm and Université Paris Cité.

Dr Joutel is an internationally renowned expert in the pathogenesis of small vessel diseases (SVDs) of the brain and her lab has produced some of the seminal work on CADASIL, the most frequent hereditary SVD, acknowledged by the Brain Prize 2019.

The team has an extensive network of collaborators in Europe and the United states.

Poste et missions

Cerebral small vessel diseases (SVDs) account for ~25% of ischemic strokes, the vast majority of intracerebral hemorrhages and are a leading cause of age-related cognitive decline and disability. Our limited understanding of the pathogenesis of SVDs is a major obstacle to the development of treatments. The team studies the mechanism of these diseases using clinically relevant mouse models and a wide array of cutting-edge approaches.

The current project is articulated around novel concepts that are supported by ample preliminary results and aims at exploring the relative contribution of different mural cell populations from brain vessels to the pathogenesis of SVDs.

Technical approaches include utilizing and refining ex vivo microscopic fluorescence imaging, high resolution brain MRI, ultrafast functional ultrasounds, single cell transcriptomics and novel innovative mouse models.

The project is funded by international grants for at least 5 years.
