You will join the Environmental Sustainability Assessment and Circularity (SUSTAIN) Unit. developing knowledge, transferable (software) technologies, practical methods and outreach activities for the simulation and comprehensive sustainability assessment of societal systems. Its final purpose is to foster sustainable eco-innovation, through products and technologies, as well as support sustainability-oriented policy implementation and behavioural change to promote decarbonisation transitions.
Within the SUSTAIN Unit, you will be incorporated in the Life Cycle Sustainability Analysis (LCSA) research group. The group consists of ca. 25 researchers developing sustainability metrics and indicators, to assess the environmental and social impacts of products, technologies, territories and policies, for both industrial organisations and policy makers.

Education
- Master’s degree in engineering and PhD in Life Cycle Assessment
Experience and skills
MUST HAVE
- Experience in Process Modelling and Simulation
- Experience in Life Cycle Assessment
- Proven organizational skills and interdisciplinary thinking, a problem-solving mind-set, and a strong team-working capability, but is also able to work in autonomy and creatively
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in programming (Python preferred)
- Experience in working in an interdisciplinary context
Language skills
- Flawless knowledge of English (both spoken and written) is required.
- Knowledge of German and/or French and/or Luxembourgish is considered as an asset.
Objectifs
How will you contribute?
You will work in two projects, in collaboration with an important steel industry partner, focusing on the development of tools for heat/energy recovery and process optimization. With a focus on optimising the valorisation of industrial waste heat to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, you will identify key thermal, economic and environmental parameters of the considered thermal processes. In addition, you will work in a project focusing on Life Cycle Assessment of different crop production systems, together with several international academic partners.
Main missions will include:
- Contribute to R&D activities in Process modelling and Life Cycle Assessment;
- Co-author high-quality research articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
- Contribute to the generation of IP in the context of your research activities (e.g., patents, licenses).
- Attend international conferences.
