You will join the Environmental Sustainability Assessment and Circularity (SUSTAIN) Unit. developing knowledge, transferable (software) technologies, practical methods and outreach activities for the simulation and comprehensive sustainability assessment of societal systems. Its final purpose is to foster sustainable eco-innovation, through products and technologies, as well as support sustainability-oriented policy implementation and behavioural change to promote decarbonisation transitions.

Within the SUSTAIN Unit, you will be incorporated in the Life Cycle Sustainability Analysis (LCSA) research group. The group consists of ca. 25 researchers developing sustainability metrics and indicators, to assess the environmental and social impacts of products, technologies, territories and policies, for both industrial organisations and policy makers.

Education

Master’s degree and PhD in environmental engineering, environmental economics or environmental science. A PhD or equivalent experience in life cycle assessment is mandatory.

 

Required Seniority: minimum 5-year post-doctoral experience

MUST HAVE

  • Proven expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA);
  • Excellent knowledge of commercial LCA software; knowledge of Brighway is an asset;
  • Previous experience in European research projects and collaborative research with industry;
  • Previous experience in team coordination or management;
  • Proven organizational skills and interdisciplinary thinking, a problem-solving mind-set, and a strong team-working capability, but is also able to work in autonomy and creatively.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Previous experience in research proposal writing

Language skills

  • Flawless knowledge of English (both spoken and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of German and/or French and/or Luxembourgish is considered as an asset.

Objectifs

How will you contribute?

 

You are an experienced Life Cycle Assessment researcher, with a proven track record in leading sustainability assessment projects and managing the work of research teams at European level. You master Life Cycle Assessment and have a sound knowledge of the main EU standards and regulations in the field (e.g. Carbon footprint - GHG Protocol, SBT - Science-Based Targets, CDP, EU Taxonomy, SFDR, CSRD, ..). 

 

You will coordinate the work of junior researchers in European projects and collaborative research with industry and policy makers. You will responsible of developing a strategic multi-stakeholder partnership with leading industries, including services and doctoral research.

 

A sound experience in working across different values chains is required. The ideal candidate should have a good knowledge in at least one field among Manufacturing Industry, Advanced Material Science and Sustainable Construction. Experience in the field of Sustainable Finance, in the assessment of double materiality metrics and in supporting financial institutions and industries in reporting requirements, is an advantage.
