Description
The main objective is to establish the feasibility of nanoparticle-functionalized polymer optical fibers for sensing applications. Specifically, the intern will first model and design the optimal fiber structure, incorporating the unique thermal properties of the LLC nanoparticles, using advanced multiphysics methods. This theoretical work will be validated through the fabrication of test fibers at XLIM, both with and without the nanoparticles. The fibers will then undergo detailed optical and thermal characterization. Finally, the experimental results will be used to refine the predictive model, establishing the core scientific link between fiber design and temperature-dependent functionality.
Profil
The applicant should be enrolled in a Master 2 (M2) program or equivalent, specializing in a field at the intersection of Physics, Photonics, and Materials Science. Skills include: fundamental knowledge of Optics and Electromagnetism; proficiency in computational modeling; and a basic understanding of polymer science or materials synthesis. The applicant must be adept at experimental work (laboratory characterization, handling of optical fibers) and possess strong analytical and programming skills to process experimental data and interact with AI-based optimization models. English language proficiency is mandatory for collaboration between French and Irish partners.
