Description du sujet

The m6A modification of mRNA was recently brought back at the center stage of epitranscriptomics, because of its role in the control of cell identity during differentiation and development. Surprisingly, little information is available regarding the role of m6A during cellular dedifferentation processes such as epithelial-to-mesenchymal (EMT), endothelial-to-hematopietic (EHT) or endothelial-to-mesenchymal (EndMT) transitions. In this proposal, we would like to fill that gap and investigate the involvement of m6A deposition in EndMT. Because transcription factors are key regulators of EndMT, we will take this opportunity to test the provocative hypothesis that these factors also participate in defining the m6A epitranscriptomic landscape of EndMT.

A PhD position is available for a highly motivated student in the Laboratory of Gene expression and Cancer (Pr. Franck DEQUIEDT) at GIGA-Research Institute of the University of Liège, Belgium

 

 

 

The Dequiedt laboratory uses genetics, genomics, interactomics, biochemistry and computational biology approaches to study the molecular mechanisms underlying gene expression regulation in mammalian cells. In particular, our currents efforts aim at identifying novel functions for transcription factors in post-transcriptional processes, including mRNA splicing, export, degradation and translation. We study these functions in important developmental contexts and are also interested in how these functions might be altered in pathological conditions, such as in cancer. Our prototypical model of study is the oncogenic fusions found in Ewing sarcoma. Our lab offers excellent interdisciplinary training opportunities and a stimulating scientific environment. The specific PhD project will be focused on the role of transcription factors in m6A deposition.

Profil du candidat

We are seeking a qualified and highly motivated student who is looking for the opportunity to engage in this area of research. The candidate should be ready to undertake competitive and high profile fundamental research. He/She should demonstrate high motivation, commitment and proactivity. Previous experience in a molecular biology lab is preferable. Statistical background and ability to work in a team will be an asset. The student will benefit from the stimulating GIGA (www.giga.ulg.ac.be) scientific environment (courses, activities, seminars, technology platforms, etc..).

The position is available immediately for 24 months, renewable once for a total of 48 months.
