Sakura: Franco-Japanese program to support researchers' mobility

The Partenariat Hubert Curien (PHC) - Sakura 2023 - aims to develop scientific and technological exchanges of excellence between French and New Zealand laboratories, by encouraging the participation of young researchers (PhD candidates and post-doctoral fellows). The deadline for applications is September 6, 2022.

Sakura is the Partenariat Hubert Curien (PHC) set up in France by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI), and in New Zealand by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

Terms and conditions

  • The call for applications is open to full researchers from research laboratories attached to higher education organizations and research institutions;
  • The participation of young researchers and PhD candidates is strongly encouraged.
  • Companies can participate in the project, as long as they are associated with an academic partner;
  • The programme supports research projects proposed jointly by a French and Japanese team with emphasis on programmes establishing new cooperation;
  • The project title should be submitted in English and in exactly identical terms (max.120 characters) to both agencies (Campus France for the French part, JSPS for the Japanese part).
  • All scientific fields are concerned.

Mission and funding

  • Funding is granted on an annual basis, for two consecutive years;
  • Funding support from France (max 6000 €/year/project) covers stay (€180/day) and travels (reimbursement on actual expenses per France-Japan round-trip) allowances of involved French researchers.

  • Funding support from Japan (maximum 1,000,000 yen/project) covers stay and travels allowances of involved Japanese researcheres, as well as other expenses related to the Sakura project.

The final deadline for application is September 6, 2022.
