The Council of Graduate Schools (CGS)

The Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) is a national clearinghouse for information and research on graduate programs which aims at developing higher education through advocacy, research, innovation and dissemination of best practices. 
Currently, CGS membership includes over 500 universities in the United States and Canada, and 14 universities outside North America. Collectively, CGS institutions annually award more than 94 percent of all U.S. doctorates.

In the "Programs & Awards" section, you will find information about the "PhD Completion…" which is a seven-year project (2004-2010), grant-funded by Pfizer Inc and Ford Foundation, and that addresses the issues surrounding Ph.D. completion and attrition. See also the project website.
