Career advice from Science magazine

Laurent Cousin

The famous American journal is offering a practical guide for scientists wishing to develop their career. It can be downloaded for free from their website.

Science Careers, website managed by the American journal Science, dedicated to employment for scientists, is publishing a practical booklet to help scientists manage their career: "Career Basics: Advice and Resources for Scientists." The complete booklet can be downloaded online.

It includes many tips on preparing your résumé, writing grants, getting ready for a postdoc, networking, writ scientific papers, etc. This information is relevant to all scientists whether they're aiming at a career in the academic world or the private sector. The booklet includes, in particular, a chapter on “non-traditional careers” such as scientific writer or management consultant.

The articles can be consulted directly online or downloaded as PDF files, by individual article or the full guide. And it's free.
