Topic description

As society evolves with changing lifestyles influenced by economic constraints, climate emergencies, digital usage, and the technological transition toward Industry 5.0, characterized by the collaboration concept between humans and machines, traditional materials are often inadequate to meet these diverse requirements. This Ph.D. thesis proposes the development of thermoplastic polymer-matrix composites (PMC) that are recyclable and repairable, incorporate intelligent features through the integration of piezoelectric transducers, and address challenges related to their manufacturing stage (Process Monitoring - PM) and their health status during their lifespan (Structural Health Monitoring - SHM). For PMC structures with complex geometries, these transducers' positioning and different responses (capacitive, ultrasonic, vibratory, and acoustic ones) will be predicted and optimized. This will be achieved by implementing robust numerical models that use fine electromechanical coupling via the CARRERA Unified Formulation. Additionally, a testing/calculation dialogue will be established to fine-tune the various modeling parameters.
