Employer organisation

The Lab-STICC, with it affiliation to the INS2I institute of the CNRS, is a research unit historically recognized in Brittany and in France in the field of ICTS. It has a proven capacity to cover a broad scientific spectrum around digital sciences, and in particular with this ability to address various disciplinary fields (Information Theory, Waves & Materials, Embedded Electronics and Computing, Data Sciences, Communication and Signal Detection, Human-Machine Interfaces,...) following multiple themes/application sectors: maritime environment, communicating objects, defense, space, health, security, robotics... A Post-doc fellowship is available at the Smart Materials and Related Technologies (SMART) team. This latter focused on the interaction between electromagnetic (EM) waves and materials for different applications such as microwave devices and systems, biology and sensors. It is constituted of 11 permanent members (an many PhD and post-docs) that have skills in material science, electromagnetism and electronics.

Description

Postdoctoral fellow -

This position offers a unique opportunity to build on recent advances in the lab-STICC (University of Brest - France) in the area of radiofrequency-based sensors with applications to the detection of degradation of materials (i.e. corrosion). Our lab seeks a highly skilled and energetic postdoctoral candidate with research and publication experience in the field of antennas and RF devices. As part of a French ANR project, the main missions of the recruited person concern the electromagnetic modeling of antenna and radiofrequency systems, the aim being to include RF sensitive parts in innovative battery-less RFID sensors. You will also have to propose design strategies, launch manufacturing and demonstrate innovative concepts. An experience in the field of material science would also be appreciated.

Profile

Qualifications :

  • Strong skills in analytical methods, numerical validation (HFSS, CST, COMSOL,..), fabrication, and experimental design
  • Experience in laboratory work and R&D of RF systems, preferably wireless communication and sensing networks.
  • Publication record in high impact factor journals
  • Experience with mentorship and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students
  • Experience in contributing to the planning, writing, and execution of grant proposals
  • Experience with relevant software (e.g. C/C++, Python, Origin, ...) and equipment (VNAs, ..)
  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
