Phd position at the European Research Council project DATARoutes
  • Computer science
  • Data science (storage, security, measurement, analysis)
Computer networks, Geopolitics, Graph analysis, cartography

Topic description

DATAROUTES project aims to carry out a cartography of Internet data routes in order to understand how the routing strategies of state and non-state actors shape cyberspace and to analyse, as a domain of the application, the important security and policy issues it raises for the European Union. The goals of this project are to measure and map Internet routes using open-source data, thanks to DATAROUTES’ Border Gateway Protocol observatory. DATAROUTES will provide a platform for open access to its data and methodologies in order to encourage a new stream of research on the geopolitics of data routing. This is a highly multidisciplinary project between geopolitics and computer science. It develops methods based on very advanced mathematical concepts (graph curvature, non-convex optimizations), big data processing (processing whole internet graphs with 500K nodes, and 1 M links), advanced visualization, along with geopolitical analysis and methodologies.
