Aerleum is a French deep-tech startup pioneering Reactive Direct Air Capture (Reactive DAC) — a breakthrough technology that integrates carbon capture and conversion into a single reactor. Our mission is to produce cost-competitive, scalable, and sustainable fuels that directly replace fossil-based alternatives in hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as maritime shipping, aviation, and chemicals.
Description
As a Material Scientist Intern, you will contribute to the development of Aerleum’s next-generation materials for CO₂ capture and conversion. Working closely with the R&D team, you will take part in the synthesis, testing, and optimization of innovative dual functional materials, with a strong focus on inorganic chemistry.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge environment, bridging inorganic chemistry and materials science to accelerate the decarbonization of industry through breakthrough CO₂-to-methanol technology.
Main Responsibilities:
Synthesis
Prepare dual functional materials for CO₂ capture and conversion.
Follow synthesis protocols to ensure reproducibility, consistency, and of materials.
Performance Testing
Operate the discovery platform to conduct CO₂ adsorption and catalytic conversion tests on synthesized samples.
Support the evaluation of material performance and contribute to iterative optimization cycles.
Data Management & Analysis
Maintain a structured database documenting synthesis conditions, operating conditions, and performance metrics.
Assist in analyzing experimental data to identify key trends and guide material improvement efforts.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong technical background, a hands-on mindset, a fast-learning attitude, and a genuine drive for innovation.
Currently completing a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree acceptable).
Previous experience in material synthesis and characterization is a strong plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel ; rigorous in data collection, processing, and analysis.
A team player with the ability to manage technical projects.
Fast learner, autonomous, and curious about emerging green technologies.
Capable of working in English, both written and spoken.
Additional Assets
Experience in the development of catalytic or CO₂ capture materials is highly valued. Fluency in French is also appreciated.
