Topic description
This thesis project focuses on developing a sustainable solution for producing and purifying biohydrogen (BioH₂). It proposes an innovative approach based on a co-culture system that combines microalgae and purple non-sulfur bacteria (PNSB) in a shared light environment. Designed to produce BioH₂ and biomass from organic waste simultaneously, this system addresses the challenges of scalable renewable technologies and is part of a circular bioeconomy approach. In collaboration with CEA Tech's DRT, the project involves modelling the metabolic interactions between these microorganisms to optimise their growth and joint production. It also involves developing a closed-loop system in which the microalgae recycle the emitted CO₂, thus purifying the BioH₂ and generating valuable biomass. The project also plans to design an advanced photobioreactor (PBR) that optimises light distribution and gas management to maximise system efficiency, paving the way for more efficient, environmentally friendly renewable energy production.

Presentation of host institution and host laboratory
