« Les objets en littérature : théorie de la fiction, poétique des formes et histoire matérielle (Antiquité–XXIe siècle » // ‘Objects in Literature: Theory of Fiction, Poetics of Literary Forms and Material History (Antiquity–21st Century)'

La thèse proposée visera à analyser la place et la fonction des objets dans un corpus d'œuvres de fiction littéraires, à partir d'un croisement méthodologique entre théorie littéraire (poétique, narratologie, génétique et rhétorique des formes), théorie de la fiction (pacte de lecture, mondes possibles, régimes de vérité) et histoire matérielle (culture matérielle, techniques, usages, circulation, valeurs et économies symboliques).
Il s'agira de montrer comment un objet particulier ou une série d'objets peu(ven)t opérer comme dispositif fictionnel, au-delà de son/leur sémantisme propre : structuration de l'intrigue, modélisation des affects, construction de la vraisemblance, rôle dans la poétique des genres littéraires, inscription de normes sociales et anthropologiques, mise en scène de rapports de pouvoir, ou encore reconfiguration des frontières entre le sujet et le monde matériel.
La recherche proposée portera sur un corpus d'œuvres nécessairement comparatiste et pluri-linguistique, qu'il soit synchronique ou diachronique, étendu sur un ou plusieurs genres ((épopée, roman, théâtre, conte, nouvelle policière, fantasy, SF).). L'enquête pourra être monographique (consacrées à un seul objet) ou porter sur des dispositifs complexes

The proposed thesis will aim to analyse the role and function of objects within a corpus of literary fiction, drawing on a methodological intersection between literary theory (poetics, narratology, genetical and poetical approaches to literary forms), fiction theory (reading conventions, possible worlds, regimes of truth) and material history (material culture, techniques, uses, circulation, values and symbolic economies).
The aim will be to demonstrate how a particular object or a series of objects can function as a fictional motive, beyond their own semantic meaning: structuring of the plot, modelling of affects, construction of plausibility, role in the poetics of literary genres, embodiment of social and anthropological norms, staging of power relations, or even reconfiguration of the boundaries between the subject and the material world.

The proposed research will focus on a corpus of works that is necessarily comparative and multilingual, whether synchronic or diachronic, spanning one or more genres (epic, novel, drama, fairy tale, crime short story, fantasy, science fiction). The study may be monographic (devoted to a single object) or focus on complex devices.
