Description
Project Summary: This project aims to explore the ability of programmable single-atom micellar catalysts to selectively activate C=O, C–H, or C–C bonds depending on the reaction microenvironment. Ferric metallosurfactant micelles will be used as dynamic and adaptive nanoreactors to modulate the reactivity of species through polarity, hydration, and confinement. This approach offers a promising strategy for developing clean, low-carbon processes operating in aqueous media with an earth-abundant metal (Fe³⁺), thereby fully aligning with decarbonization strategies.
Key Objectives:
- Develop programmable single-atom micellar catalysts for the selective activation and divergent transformation of aldehydes.
- Identify the optimal catalytic conditions by studying key parameters such as temperature, light dose, irradiation wavelength, catalyst loading.
- Establish the substrate scope and selectivity using a range of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes with different electronic, steric, hydrophobic, and hydrophilic properties.
- Understand how the micellar microenvironment controls catalytic reactivity and product selectivity.
Profile
- Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of organic chemistry and catalysis.
- Experience in synthetic chemistry and reaction optimization.
- Ability to work under photochemical/light irradiation conditions.
- Reaction monitoring and product analysis using GC-MS, NMR spectroscopy
- Product purification by column chromatography.
- Personal Attributes: Self-motivated, independent, target-oriented, systematic working style, creative, and excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills.
