The Institute of Mechanics and Engineering covers the entire spectrum of solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and energetics. Its expertise is based on theoretical approaches at various scales of observation, advanced experimental methodologies, and the development of numerical methods for high-performance computing.
The Institute is actively involved in Bordeaux’s networks of excellence (IdEx, LabEx AMADEUS, and SysNum), various CNRS research groups (GDR), and international networks through European projects, among others. Due to the applied nature of research at I2M, partnerships with the industrial sector are highly developed, as evidenced by its membership in the Carnot Institute ARTS. The Institute is also engaged in themes related to competitiveness clusters such as Aerospace Valley, Route des Lasers, Xylofutur, and Avenia. Additionally, I2M plays a leading role in the IRT Saint-Exupéry and INEF4 institutes.
A distinctive feature of I2M is its strong and historical connection with technology transfer and valorization structures, including NOBATEK, CANOE, and FAHRENHEIT. The Institute is also associated with local technical platforms (PTAU) and the national knowledge networks of ENSAM.
The societal dimension is increasingly important in the Institute’s projects. Human behaviors (building thermodynamics, water management, etc.), risks (soils, waste, etc.), and economic and ecological considerations (recycling, sustainable factories through the cross-border AENIGME laboratory with Bilbao, etc.) must be integrated. This leads I2M to build partnerships with related structures such as the Bordeaux School of Architecture and Landscape, the ENS Cognitique, and the PACEA laboratory for operations like the "Lascaux Decorated Caves" project.

Profile
The present job offer targets M2 internships, PhD theses and Post Doctoral studies. It will mainly take place at I2M laboratory under the overall supervision of Simon Essongue. Strong collaborations with both experts in AM physical aspects (Eric Lacoste at I2M laboratory) and ROM experts (the MONHADE Team at Inria Bordeaux and Tommaso Taddei at Sapienza Rome University) are to be expected.
We do not expect M2 internship applicants to have a state-of-the-art knowledge of nonlinear ROMs for Domain Decomposition but we will only consider those with a strong background in numerical methods for solving PDEs and the willingness to pursue a PhD.
