Topic description

To successfully carry out its missions, the CEA Le Ripault characterize the electromganetic properties of materials. Various methods can be used to perform these measurements. A recent thesis focused on applying Bayesian methods to microwave mapping, enabling the derivation of an impedance map. The proposed thesis will address two main areas: firstly, applying this mapping method to reflectivity measurements obtained on a near-field characterization setup—through studies comparing calculations with measurements—and secondly, generalizing the method to map the radio-frequency properties of a coating.
This thesis will involve defining an approach to compare the method's performance against the characterization of actual coatings. The work will implement this approach to demonstrate the capability of the test setup and the method to determine a coating's impedance, as well as the associated measurement uncertainty. In parallel, the study will aim to extend the Bayesian method to map the dielectric or magnetic properties of a coating.
