Description
Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Fields therapy is a low cost technique that can be used in a great number of health problems ( related to bone, cartilage, degenerative join disease, improvement of microcirculation and tissue oxygenation, wound healing, ...). However, its efficiency is discussed. This is due to the great variety of experimental devices and parameters and also to the lack of a precise understanding of the action mechanisms of induced electric fields in cells and tissues. The aim of the Thesis project will be to search the best way to use PEMF therapy in order to obtain an optimal effect, depending on the type of tissue and pathology. In order to do that, some models of tissue induced electric fields and currents will be developped, along with electric models of the cell membrane. It will also be possible to study the particular case of cancer cells, and the 'magnetoporation' technique (opening of ionic channels through the cell membrane in response to induced electric currents, so that drugs or genes can enter the cell).
Profile
Très bon niveau en mathématiques et en physique, avec un intérêt pour la biologie et les applications médicales.
