Topic description

The vector boson scattering process, pp ? VV + jj + X, where V = W, Z, is characterized by the presence in the final state of leptons from the decay of the W or Z, and of high-energy jets in the forward region of the detector. At the LHC, the scattering processes WW, WZ and ZZ have been studied with Run 2 data. The next step for the community in this field is to refine the signal visibility through improved event selections, better background rejection, and the larger samples collected in Run 3. The predictions of the Standard Model can then be confronted with the results of the data analysis, and the presence of new physics in these interactions can be tested. This measurement constitutes an essential test of the coupling between the Higgs boson and the vector bosons, and of the Standard Model as a whole.
