To encourage and promote research in the field of defense and military history, the French Scientific Council for Historical Research in Defense is awarding a "Military History Prize" for PhD theses, as well as for Master 2 theses.

To encourage and promote research in the field of defense and military history, the French Scientific Council for Historical Research in Defense is awarding a "Military History Prize" for PhD theses, as well as for Master 2 theses. The theses will be submitted to a jury for evaluation.
Application and Practical information
THE PRIZE
GRANT
The prize is awarded to the winners by the Minister of the Armed Forces during an official ceremony. The sum of these prizes is :
- 5,000 euros (five thousand euros) for PhD theses ;
- 1,000 euros (one thousand euros) for Master 2 theses.
THE JURY
The jury is composed of the General Secretary for Administration (SGA) of the Ministry of the Armed Forces or of the President of the Scientific Council for Historical Research in Defense. It meets once a year in a plenary session, at the initiative of its chairman. The jury includes:
- the SGA or his representative;
- the president and the members - ex officio and appointed - of the scientific council for historical defense research.
ELIGIBILITY
- All theses defended during the academic year preceding the awards are eligible.
- Only Master 2 theses having obtained the mention "very good" and receiving a letter of recommendation from the thesis director(s) can apply.
- Foreign candidates from a foreign university may also compete.
- The theses must be written in French.
APPLICATION AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION
APPLICATION
The application file, to be submitted in three copies, includes:
- a letter stating the reasons for the application, with the candidate's contact details (postal address, e-mail, telephone)
- a curriculum vitae ;
- a letter from the research supervisor introducing the candidate and any useful information concerning the quality of the work;
- a summary (1 to 3 pages) of the thesis or dissertation;
- a copy of the diploma or certificate;
- a copy of both sides of the national identity card or passport, the social security card and a bank statement, as well as the candidate's work (in printed and digital versions):
- a copy of the thesis,
- a copy of the defense report, for PhDs,
- a copy of the dissertation and the transcript of marks, for M2 students.
