Increase of CSIR?s postgraduate fellowships

Constituted in 1942, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is the premier industrial R&D organization in India which aims among others to provide industrial competitiveness and a strong S&T base for strategic sectors(Aerospace, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Energy ...).

Given the slow growth in the number of science and engineering doctorate-holders in the country, the CSIR has decided with the government approval to award 2,400 doctoral fellowships (JRF-Junior Research Fellowships), the double compared to previous years.
Each JRF will receive Rs 12,000 (about 192 €) per month which is raised to Rs 14,000 after two years and can pursue PhD in public or private universities, or in national research institutions, or in any of CSIR’s 39 laboratories.

The issue is to know afterwards how to ensure that new or future PhDs do not leave the country for a post-doctoral position abroad ...
