Claire Deschênes Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Sherbrooke University

The Sherbrooke University launches the Claire-Deschênes Postdoctoral Fellowship call for PhD candidates and young PhDs. It involves eight postdoctoral fellowships ($40,000/year, for up to 2 years), each attached to a professorship at the university. Apply until September 13, 2020.

Claire-Deschênes postdoctoral fellowships

The Claire Deschênes Postdoctoral Fellowship call is intended to encourage the postdoctoral training of women researchers who will subsequently become professors of engineering at the Sherbrooke University.

Submit your application to obtain one of eight postdoctoral fellowships ($40,000/year, for up to 2 years) each attached to a professorship at the university.

One fellowship is available per field:

  • building engineering
  • biotechnology engineering
  • chemical engineering
  • civil engineering
  • electrical engineering
  • computer engineering
  • mechanical engineering
  • robotic engineering


The call is open to all women who wish to undertake a postdoctorate and then a professorial career in engineering at the Sherbrooke University.

It is important to note that the Sherbrooke Universiry is a French-speaking university, so candidates must be proficient in French or be committed to learning it.

At the time of application, candidates must be enrolled in a PhD program and must have successfully completed compréhensive exam (examen de synthèse au doctorat). Candidates who have completed their doctoral studies within the last two years are also eligible. The doctoral and post-doctoral experinece must be completed at different institutions.

If the candidate is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, certain immigration documents may be required.


Full applications for the first selection round must be received by March 1st, 2020 at the latest.

Once the initial four fellowships have been awarded, the areas of the remaining four fellowships will be made public.

For the second selection round, applications in the four remaining areas will be accepted until September 13th, 2020.
