The "Ambassador" Programme 2026

Each year, the French Ministry of Armed Forces awards 2 postdoctoral fellowships במסגרת its “Ambassador” programme.

The “Ambassador” programme aims to fund a 12-month stay abroad for a postdoctoral researcher working on a research project focused on security and defence issues, regardless of the academic discipline within humanities and social sciences (geography, economics, political science, law, etc.).

The “Ambassador” programme is scientifically supervised by the Institute for Strategic Research of the Military School (IRSEM), under the authority of the Directorate General for International Relations and Strategy (DGRIS).

This scheme is part of the Higher Education Pact and aims to contribute to strengthening the pool of academic research in the fields of defence and security.

Applicants must be French nationals or citizens of a European Union Member State who have successfully defended their PhD (with or without co-supervision, in France or abroad) within the five years preceding the application.

Applications must be submitted before April 20, 2026 at the latest.

Important:

- You must ensure the feasibility of your departure with your French host laboratory and your host research institution abroad before submitting your application to the “Ambassador” programme.

- You must also ensure before applying to this programme that your university meets the conditions required to sign the funding agreement.

Doctoral Grant Programme
"International Relations and Strategy 2026"

The doctoral programme aims to promote innovative approaches, both in terms of research topics, methodologies, and interdisciplinary dimensions. These grants support early-stage researchers undertaking a PhD on security and defence issues, regardless of the academic discipline in humanities and social sciences.

This programme can fund up to ten grants per year, for a duration of three years.

Important: the application campaign is open from March 2 to April 20, 2026

An application is considered valid only once the applicant has received a confirmation email.
