Description du sujet

Context:
Polycrystalline materials are widely used in industry, and their mechanical behavior depends on their microstructure, i.e., grain size, crystallographic orientations, and internal stress. These features influence ultrasonic measurements like attenuation and phase velocity.

Objective:
This PhD aims to combine analytical, numerical (Spectral Element Method), and stochastic (Monte Carlo) tools to investigate the relation between ultrasonic signals and microstructure variability, including internal stress effects. The results will help improve Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) protocols.

Funding and Environment:
The project is fully funded by the French ANR (SEISMOMETER project), supervised by researchers at the GeM Laboratory (Nantes Université – CNRS UMR 6183).
