Description du sujet
Cyclodextrins are unique molecular objects in supramolecular chemistry, capable of forming inclusion complexes with a wide range of molecules. Despite their widespread use, fine control over their properties remains limited due to their structural flexibility, particularly at the level of their primary face.
The objective of this project is to develop an original methodological approach enabling the selective functionalization of this primary face, in particular through the transformation of primary alcohols into nitrile groups. This strategy aims to provide access to a new class of cyclodextrins with modulated structural and functional properties.
The resulting derivatives are expected to lead to systems that are:
- structurally rigidified,
- chemically tunable,
- exhibiting improved supramolecular properties.
The project will rely on the development of selective and sustainable synthetic methodologies, enabling access to unprecedented nitrile intermediates in carbohydrate chemistry. These intermediates will subsequently be transformed into various functional derivatives (amides, acids, ligands), in order to build a diversified molecular platform.
The properties of the synthesized compounds will be investigated in supramolecular chemistry, particularly through the study of host–guest interactions and structure–property relationships. The developed systems will also be evaluated in various application contexts, including encapsulation, functional materials, as well as environmental and biomedical applications.
The PhD project will include several parts:
- Development of selective functionalization methodologies for cyclodextrins (primary face) and optimization of reaction conditions
- Synthesis, purification, and characterization of derivatives (NMR, mass spectrometry, chromatographic techniques)
- Derivatization of nitrile functions and construction of a molecular library
- Study of supramolecular properties (host–guest interactions) and exploration of applications
