PhD : Aware Multi-Access Orchestration for Multimodal Uplink in 6G Environments
  • Télécommunications

Description du sujet

The evolution towards 6G is accompanied by an increasing integration of heterogeneous access technologies, including cellular and Wi-Fi networks, in order to meet the requirements of emerging critical applications. In this context, intelligent embedded devices (augmented cameras, connected sensors) generate multimodal data streams combining video, metadata derived from artificial intelligence algorithms, and information collected from surrounding objects.

These data streams exhibit heterogeneous constraints in terms of latency, reliability, throughput, and criticality, and must be transmitted in dynamic environments characterized by mobility, fluctuating connectivity, and the coexistence of multiple access technologies.

The objective of this PhD is to design multi-access orchestration mechanisms that dynamically adapt the use of different radio interfaces (Wi-Fi, 5G/6G), taking into account communication context, data characteristics, and application requirements. The work will focus on proposing models for multimodal data streams, adaptive transmission strategies, and their integration into a coherent system architecture.

Communication networks are evolving towards increasingly distributed and heterogeneous architectures. 6G aims in particular to natively integrate multiple radio access technologies, including non-cellular networks such as Wi-Fi, and to support critical applications in domains such as healthcare, public safety, and industry.

In this context, Canon is developing multimodal data capture and processing devices (smart cameras) that require efficient and adaptive communication solutions. These devices operate in diverse environments (indoor, outdoor, mobile scenarios) and face strong quality-of-service constraints.

Current multi-access management approaches are mainly based on network-level metrics and only partially consider the nature of the data and application requirements. There is therefore a need for new research to design more advanced mechanisms capable of integrating these dimensions.

This PhD is positioned at the intersection of communication networks, distributed systems, and multimodal data processing, with strong potential for both industrial and academic impact and the opportunity to participate in a collaborative 6G project of the Horizon Europe SNS (Smart Networks and Services) program.
