How will you contribute?
In the framework of the MSCA Rescue project, you will be mainly in charge of:
- Developing a context-sensitive methodology for assessing and monitoring soil health at contaminated sites using geophysical characterisation methods
- Integrating soil health descriptors, ecosystem services, and EU regulatory frameworks (including the Soil Monitoring Law) into a unified assessment approach applicable across urban and peri-urban settings
- Evaluating site-specific phytomanagement strategies through multi-criteria analysis connecting biophysical and economic descriptors
- Building and enhancing the existing NBenefit$ tool of LIST by combining system dynamic modelling of ecological processes, life cycle assessment (LCA), and life cycle costing (LCC) into an evidence-based simulation framework
- Applying the enhanced NBenefit$ tool to a real case study in Wallonia in collaboration with industry partner Siterem
- Collaborating with Doctoral Candidate of Linköping University (DC14) on joint synthesis work contributing to the overall objectives of WP4
- Engaging in four secondments for a total of 12 months at University of Gent (3 moths); Linköping University (4 months); University of Milano-Bicocca (4 months); Siterem-Belgium (1 month):

Education
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Ecology, Soil Science or a closely related field
- Academic background covering topics such as soil science, soil remediation technologies, life cycle assessment, ecosystem services, soil ecology, phytoremediation and bioremediation, geophysics
- Up to 2 years of experience (including research, academic work or courses) in soil assessment, contaminated land management, or related fields
Hard skills:
- Familiarity with soil health indicators, ecosystem services assessment, and phytomanagement strategies
- Experience with or strong interest in system dynamic modelling
- Knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) and/or life cycle costing (LCC) methodologies is an asset
- Basic understanding of applied geophysical methods is an asset
- Knowledge of EU soil-related regulatory frameworks (e.g., Soil Monitoring Law) is an asset
- Proficiency in data analysis, scientific writing, and relevant modelling or programming tools
Soft skills:
- Strong integrative thinking, able to connect biophysical, economic, and regulatory dimensions
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international research environment
- Proactive and autonomous, with strong organisational skills
Language skills
- Fluency in English, both oral and written. Other relevant languages (French, German, Luxembourgish) are an asset.
