How will you contribute?
The purpose of the internship is to be part of the preliminary study for a future space mission. The vision is an in-orbit demonstration and validation of LIST’s technologies. The internship student will be responsible for the definition and the analysis of the mission dedicated to a new scientific instrument developed by the scientific instrumentation team (AINA as Advanced Instrumentation for Nano-Analytics). The preferred duration for the internship is 6 months.
You will be mainly in charge of:
Mission analysis
- Follow the preliminary study of the mission
- Become familiar with the technology of mass spectrometry
- Definition of the mission requirements (Discussion with external partners and scientists)
- Mission concept definition
- Orbit design
System engineering
- Definition of the full system (3D design)
- Definition of interfaces and the payload instrument
- Main budget analysis (mass / power / data / cost)
- Mode description
- Preliminary design choices
- Mission profile

Education
- Master diploma ongoing in space system engineering or equivalent
Experience and skills
Hard skills
- Experience in mission analysis tool (GMAT, IDM or equivalent)
- Experience in CAD (Solidworks, Fusion 360 or equivalent)
- Hand-on in ECSS documentation
- Hand-on in embedded electronics
- Knowledge in EDA (Fusion Electronics, KiCAD, or equivalent).
- Knowledge in scientific instrumentation
- Knowledge in analogical electronics and signal treatment, numerical protocols (I2C, SPI), hardware microcontroller/microcomputer programming (e. g. Arduino, Raspberry).
Soft skills
- Interpersonal skills, attitude to teamwork, both with the internal team and with external stakeholders.
- Autonomy in the management and conduction of the study with progress meetings
- Good practices in writing analysis reports and design reports
Language skills
- Fluency in English (and French), both oral and written. Other relevant languages are an asset.
