Description
Environnement :
The LRTOX laboratory of the French Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radioprotection (ASNR) welcomes applicants for 6-months Master Thesis internship in cancer biology.
The laboratory aims to understand the biological effects of low-dose radiation in various cancer and non-cancer contexts. The internship is part of a European collaborative project entitled “Deciphering the role of microenvironment after low-dose exposure for colon carcinogenesis and radiation risk”.
In particular, the applicant will perform experiments to characterize the role of gut microbiota during CRC development and irradiation.
Besides excellent access to infrastructure resources (histology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, etc.), the laboratory offers a supportive and collaborative environment, with multiple opportunities for personal growth.
Missions :
This Master Thesis internship will be performed in the Experimental Radiotoxicology and Radiobiology Laboratory (LRTOX) headed by Dmitry Klokov. The successful candidate will be supervised by Guillaume Varès and will work with a postdoc. They will use an inducible CRC mouse model, establish mouse intestinal organoids to study how LDR can potentiate CRC initiation and progression, and perform experiments to characterize and modulate the gut microbiota in this model.
Thématique :
The evaluation of cancer risk associated with exposure to low doses of ionizing radiation (LDR) is a major challenge. In this project, the candidate will use an inducible colon cancer mouse model (KPC:APC) and histological analysis to understand how LDR may induce changes in the tumor microenvironment, leading to colon cancer progression. Additional cellular and molecular characterizations will be performed in intestinal organoids. The candidate will perform metagenomics sequencing to characterize the role of gut microbiota in this model.
Niveau de diplôme préparé :
Master 2 ou équivalent (Diplôme d'Ingénieur, etc.) (BAC+5)
Profil
Applicants should have experience in a related area/subject: cancer research, biomedical sciences, cell and molecular biology, radiobiology and/or toxicology. Candidates with previous laboratory experience (particularly in cell and molecular biology) and/or familiarity with murine models, organoids, intestinal biology or microbiology are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Working methods: Structured and results oriented.
- Personality: Self-motivated and team-oriented.
- Languages: Proficiency in English or French.
