Who are we

ArcelorMittal is one of the world's leading steel companies. Every day, its 154,000 employees in 60 countries help build a better world with smarter steels that consume less energy and emit less carbon.

The Maizières campus

The Maizières campus is the group's largest R&D site with more than 700 employees who work daily to make steel a cutting-edge product. Coming from the best academic backgrounds, its community of researchers, made up of more than 35 nationalities, designs and industrializes new products for the automotive, packaging and construction markets. To meet the group's ambitions, the decarbonization of steel production is now one of the main drivers of research carried out on the site.

Description

Reference Offre 137

In the largest Research and Development laboratory of ArcelorMittal group in Maizières-lès-Metz as part of the Decarbonization and Finishing team, you will act to increase the knowledge in the side-trimming numerical simulation. To this end, you will use a Finite Element Method with Abaqus to simulate the side trimming process. Your work will help to better understand the origin of manufacturing issues for our plants around the world by improving an existing model.

In that purpose, you will need to:

• Assess and improve the accuracy of knives modelling parameters to enhance prediction of:
o Shear force on Knives.
o Fracture surface of the strips.

• Enhance the current model by:
o Improving the current knives kinematics to better represent actual process conditions.
o Modelling and determine the impact of scrap chopper on the process.
o Improving the current material characterization procedure.

• Study the impact of strip configuration:
o Model and assess the impact of strips thickness variation on process parameters.
