Établissement recruteur

Ranked among the top engineering schools in France and recognized worldwide, our school, a member of the Institut Mines-Télécom, educates the talents of tomorrow while actively addressing major industrial, digital, and environmental challenges. By joining us, you become part of a community of 500 members of staff, 2,500 students and take part in an ambitious project: combining academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and positive societal impact.

Description

Brain implants are the key devices of neurorehabilitation systems based on brain-computer interfaces (BCI) and neural prostheses. Based on several previous preclinical studies it is well established that the more electrodes an implant provides, the more accurate and efficient is neural decoding and BCI performances. Without such device, there is no possibility to envision future efficient brain-controlled systems to help people suffering from paralysis due to neurodegenerative diseases or brain stroke or trauma. The overall goal of the current project is to develop a long-lasting, high-density flexible brain implant, connected to the electronics through a high precision printed flexible PCB.

Research program

In this multidisciplinary collaborative project the intern will integrate the Bioelectronics Department of Mines Saint-Etienne (BEL, EMSE) located in Gardanne (13) and focus on:

  • The development of the printing process according to the ink/substrate
  • The electrical characterization of the printed elements
  • The mechanical characterization and stability of the printed elements in accelerated aging conditions

Profil

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate engaged in a M2 or equivalent in the field of electronics of material sciences with a strong taste for practical work. The BEL department is a highly international research team, so a good level of English would be a plus.
