Environnement et ordres juridiques // Environment and Legal Orders

Face à une triple crise planétaire (changement climatique, perte de biodiversité et pollution), les ordres juridiques jouent et continueront de jouer un rôle important dans la manière dont les sociétés peuvent bien réagir à des avenirs environnementaux instables. Comprendre le rôle du droit et des ordres juridiques est donc essentiel pour une transition écologique juste et pour ce projet.

Les candidats ayant un projet de thèse dans le domaine général de « l'environnement et les ordres juridiques » sont donc encouragés à postuler à ce poste. Bien que le thème spécifique du projet soit ouvert, voici une liste indicative des domaines particulièrement intéressants : la Convention d'Aarhus et l'Accord d'Escazú; droits humains environnementaux; l'accès à la justice environnementale; la démocratie environnementale et la participation publique ; la désobéissance civile et les défenseurs de l'environnement; la gestion environnementale; et le règlement des litiges et les contentieux environnementaux.

Les projets pertinents ne relevant pas de ces thèmes seront pris en considération, en particulier s'ils adoptent une approche transnationale, jurisprudentielle, théorique, interdisciplinaire, décoloniale et/ou créative.

Les candidats sont invités à discuter de leur projet avec Mme Barritt avant de postuler et doivent avoir obtenu son accord de principe pour la supervision de leur thèse. Ils sont également encouragés à se familiariser avec le projet TERRAE, car ils seront appelés à contribuer activement à ce projet de recherche à l'échelle du PSL.

In the face of a triple planetary crisis (climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution), legal orders play, and will continue to play, an important role in how societies respond well to destabilising environmental futures. Understanding the role of law and legal orders is thus central to the just ecological transition, and to this project.

Candidates with a PhD proposal within the general theme of ‘Environment and Legal Orders' are therefore encouraged to apply for this post. Whilst the specific theme of the project is open, an illustrative list of areas of particular interest include: the Aarhus Convention, and the Escazú Agreement; environmental human rights; access to environmental justice; environmental democracy and public participation; civil disobedience and environmental defenders; environmental stewardship; and environmental adjudication and litigation.

Suitable projects outside of these themes will be considered, particularly where they apply transnational, jurisprudential, theoretical, interdisciplinary, decolonial and/or creative approaches.
Candidates are encouraged to discuss their project with Dr Barritt before submitting and must have obtained her agreement in principle to supervise their thesis. They are also encouraged to familiarise themselves with the TERRAE project, as they will be expected to actively contribute to this PSL wide research project.

Profile Candidates will need to have a good degree in law, or relevant associated discipline, at Bachelor's and Master's level, as well a demonstrable interest in legal research. Whilst it is not necessary for the candidate to have legal training in any specific jurisdiction or subject, candidates who have studied one or more of the following will be particularly well suited to the position: environmental law; international law; European Law; and/or transnational law. In addition to being academically suited to legal research, candidates are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to kindness, community building and working collaboratively in pursuit of a just ecological transition.
